(Rate this article)
-To help prevent infection, apply a thin layer of antibiotic cream or ointment.
-Keep a bandage or dressing on the wound until it starts to heal. Once it begins the healing process, remove the covering as exposure to air will hasten the healing process. When you are covering the wound, change the dressings daily or whenever they get wet or dirty.
-See a doctor if you notice any redness, drainage, warmth or swelling. Make sure you have had a tetanus shot within the last ten years and ask your doctor if you need a booster.

Burns

First-degree burns are the most minor kind of burn. Only the top layer of skin is affected. These can be treated at home. Both second-and third-degree burn victims need immediate medical care. To treat a minor burn:

-Hold the burn under cold running water for at least five minutes. You can also immerse the burn in cold water or use a cold compress. Don’t use ice as it can further damage your skin.
-Cover the burn with a sterile gauze bandage, a fluffy cotton one can irritate the skin.
-Take a pain reliever if you feel it is necessary.

Scratched Eye (corneal abrasion)

Many everyday activities can result in dirt, dust, sand, wood shavings, paper edges or metal particles scratching the eye. Here’s what to do:

-Use clean water or a saline solution to rinse the eye.
-Blink several times, this can dislodge foreign particles.
-Pull the upper eyelid over the lower lid.
-Do not try to remove an object from your eye or rub your eye if you suspect something is in it. If you experience pain, sensitivity to light or redness after the particles have been removed, see your doctor.
