How to Have a Successful Yard Sale
- If the weather is hot, keep some cold drinks on hand to keep people shopping. (You don’t have to give these away for free, charge a small amount to cover your cost).
- Consider making up some “grab bags” of small items. Make ones that contain toys for those who bring anxious children with them to the sale. This is a great way to clear out small items that have been cluttering up your home.
- It’s best to keep your pets away from the sale area, as even the friendliest animals can deter some shoppers who might not be pet fans.
After the Sale
- Clean up at the specified ending time. Return tables to their owner clean and in a timely manner.
- Count your money to determine your earnings. Make a plan to save the money or put it toward a purchase so that you can reap the benefits of your hard work.
- Take unsold items to a donation center—don’t put them back in your apartment! Read our article on donations to creatively dispose of your unwanted items while making a difference for someone in need.
