My husband is 60, I am 48. We are very professional people, but now disabled after a terrible car accident in 2007. We are quiet, friendly, and we never have company. We are looking for a two bedroom home in a safe and quiet area. HUD guarantee's our rent until March, 2010. We have lost everything to Katrina and are now living in a toxic enviroment due to Gustav. We would appreciate anything anyone could do.

Depending on where your home is located, call your local City Hall and ask them to transfer you to their Housing Department. They can give you a form to list your vacancy. You can also visit each city's website and they provide lots of information on Housing. Once you find a candidate and conduct your OWN Background check and approve them, you should receive a form from the potential tenant. Housing will pretty much guide you through the process from here on. Good Luck! PS, when people call you, they will tell you that Housing already does a background check on them and that a new one is not necessary. My local office STRONGLY suggests that I conduct my own. When it comes to disputes, keep in mind that Housing will defend them more than you.

List your property with Section 8. When a prospective tenant decides they want your unit you will have to fill out a small packet of information the tenant will give you. Get that packet back to Section 8 and you will received info from Section 8 on having an inspection done. The inspector will note items that are not in compliance. Just have them fixed and arrange another inspection. When the unit passes inspection the tenant can move in and you are a Section 8 landlord.

There are various ways to get started as a Section 8 - or subsidized property. You can easily accept RAP certificates if your property quailifies.
