I’m new to being a landlord and I’m wondering is it worth it to pay a company to do tenant screening for me? Does anyone have prior experience with this?

I think it is worth the $30 or so to get tenants checked out. You can get complete checks that look at the credit score and also looks at eviction, sex and terrorist databases. Better to be safe than sorry.

    Hi,

I agree with mgold. It always better to be safe than sorry. I have been landlording since 2005. I had a few duds but nothing major. But I do the background checks, credit checks, rental verification, employment verification, copy of driverslicense, ssn etc.. Some landlords prefer to use a service which is easier but not always cheaper or you can explore other services/websites that allow you to customize what information you want to rquest. Check out www.citicredit.com. I have used this service and I was very comfortable with the easy of use and quickness of the information. There are host of them out there to choose from. Good luck.

I think you meant www.citicredit.net not .com

Our Property Management Company; St. Lawrence Properties (www.StLawrenceProperties.net)uses them for all our tenant screenings.

You can get a basic profile or a full true background check. In todays day and age, we need to look at more than credit when determining rental eligibility.
