Getting to Know Your New Neighborhood
Once you’re settled (and the spoons and towels have found their places, too), spend some time establishing yourself as a more permanent resident. Save yourself a possible headache later and consider these tasks:
- If you haven’t met your new neighbors yet, approach them at an appropriate time with light conversation like, “What’s the best place for pizza around here?” It’ll be easier to ask for a cup of sugar if you’ve already laid the groundwork for camaraderie.
- Research local doctors and dentists through your insurance plan or with an online search and make a visit for a regular check-up.
- If you moved during the summer, try out alternate transportation routes now so that when the first snowfall or rain storm comes, you won’t be stuck looking for alternative routes when the weather isn’t as cooperative.
- If you are having trouble connecting with people, realize your feelings are normal and everyone goes through this at one time or another. If you’re feeling unusually sad, consider seeing a counselor or social worker who can help you get back on your feet.
We hope you love your new home and the great neighborhood that comes with it. Remember that home is where your heart is, so give your new place some soul and you’ll soon feel that there’s no place like your new home!
