How to Groom Your Dog
* Clean your pet’s paws and remove any dirt and debris.
* Make sure your nail clippers are very sharp.
* Cut the tip of each nail at a slight angle just before the point where it begins to curve.
* Be very careful when clipping. There is a vein that runs into the nail that will bleed profusely if nicked. If your pet has dark nails, the vein will be hard to see. If you do accidentally cut into the vein, remain calm as your pet will react badly to your panic. Apply styptic powder to the nail and the bleeding should stop shortly.
* If you wish, an emery board can be used to smooth any rough edges when you finish clipping the nail.
5) Flea Check
When you are grooming your dog, be on the lookout for little black specks on the skin. These are tell tale signs of either fleas or ticks. If you do see these, either schedule a vet appointment (if the area looks infected or irritated) or purchase flea and tick medication from your local pet shop. The pet shop will usually be able to help you select the type of medication and special shampoos that will be best for your pet’s specific condition.
