Renting Relationship Problems SOLVED!

My girlfriend and i have recently broken up and i was the one who left the place. I dont want to pay my half of the rent anymore but she wants me to til its over with both of our names are on the lease and she will not agree to have mine off because she cant afford it but i have to find another place what do i do

I rent in a four plex building. I signed a one year lease which is up May ‘07. My landlord stated he does not tolerate anything. I am the only one in this building to pay my rent on time monthly. Everybody else he allows to pay rent late, skip or allows free loaders to stay with other tenants. He also told me when I moved here if I smoked, which I don’t as I am highly allergic to it and he knew it at the time I moved in and he stated that I would have to smoke outside. Now all the present new renters renting smoke and he allows it inside. I have had one drug addict rent above me and he kicked in my bedroom window and broke a door frame out twice. I have had other renters here that don’t pay at all. My landlord is going out of town for two months and wanted me to take over management. I said no thank you as I am finishing a double major in court reporting and will be finished in August of this year and I don’t have time. The freeloaders are noise makers and disruptive and I have even smelled marijuana smoked at times as the smell comes us through the heating vents. Everybody says I have rights, but I feel I will get railroaded. I am tired and frustrated and do not know where to turn for help. My landlord never checks references or anything and wonders why he can’t keep good tenants and why they trash his properties. I am planning on moving as soon as something becomes available as I do not feel safe here, but I do not know what to do in the meantime especially with my landlords going to FL for the next two winter months. Is this fair for him to rent to only one tenant and then allow free loaders to move in with them and leave when they feel like it? Is there anything you could recommend me to do until I can find another safe place to rent or becomes available? Thank you. Ellen, KY

We are in the process of finding an apartment, however, my husband REALLY bad credit but he meets the financial requirement to rent an apartment/home. I have good credit but no income. My question to you is, will we have problems getting approved for an apartment? Due to my lack of income and my husband’s poor credit?

If you told your new girl that you were kicking your ex (who is still paying half your rent, by the way) she has to sleep on the couch, I’m sure the new girl would think you were a total jerk. Can’t you just go to her place? Like the advice giver said, you are one BRAVE man.

i have been living with my boyfriend for over 2 years now and we have a 7 month old together and the other night he came home from work and broke up with me. I have horrible credit but our lease is up in april 07 so the baby and i are on our own…how do i go about finding an affordable place with bad credit?? i have the cash for 1st last and security because of my taxes and i can pay the rent i just made stupid decisions as a kid that are following me now as a parent.. any advice??

If I were you, I would tell your exgirlfriend to get the hell out of the apartment, if all she cares about is partying, let her but, not with your money and not in your apartment. Get a clue, and leave that good for nothing… good luck

In Feb.1st of this year I had 3 days left to secure an apartment, after giving my landlord the 30 day notice. I found a small apt, in a 3 family house, the landlord seemed nice enough. Except that there were issues with the lease. I have yet to sign a Lease Agreement. We have been negotiaing the lease because there were questionable issues in the lease. 2 days ago I see a ‘For Sale’ on the front lawn. Now I have the real estate agent calling me on my cell to set up appointments to show the prosepective buyers my rental. I am furious. I would have never rented this apt knowing not only that it was going on the market but having strangers walking through my apartment and in and out the rooms, is so invasive. What should and can I do??

I have been living with my current roommate for a little under two years. Over the course of the last 8 months, she has started going a little OCD on me and started complaining about the littlest things (wet shoes left in the foyer, brita filter on the counter, piles of laundry in my room, etc). I don’t consider myself a messy person (I keep the common area clean, but have my piles of laundry in my closet that need cleaning). She recently told me that she doesn’t like our living arrangement and wants me to move out when our lease ends in 4 months. I really like my apartment complex and was the one who found it two years ago. Should I ask her to move out even though (as she says) she has more stuff? I’m afraid she’ll refuse and start yelling at me like she does whenever she brings up something that bothers her.

My daughter was living with her boyfriend for almost a year. Their lease is up in May. Her boyfriend and her broke up but agreed to stay together until the lease was up. Unfortunately he has become unbearable and fights with her constantly. She doesn’t go home at times just to get away from him. Well it has gotten so bad she had to move out and he thinks she should pay her part of the rent when he is the one going to be living there. I’m having a big problem with my living situation right now. My ex and I moved into an apt November of 2006. The sec deposit was $1000.00 with first months rent of $875.00. At the time we were still together. I put up $1350.00 for the move in and all he put up was $525.00. Since the move in all he has ever paid was $300.00 a month I have been paying $575.00 plus all of the utilties. I never agreed to pay more he wouldn’t pay his fair share and being that I just moved to Cali from hawaii and have nowhere else to go I did not want to get evicted so I paid what I paid so that I wouldn’t get evicted. We broke up about a month ago and he refuses to get out of the apartment. He is a true sorry case he is 20 years older then me and yet I am the one pulling all the weight around here. We been gettin into more and more frequent arguments and I want him out but don’t know how to go about getting him out can anyone help me please

I am living in apartment. one day million and million termites came
out in my living room from window-columns. my family and I were really surprise too much. APT worker killed with insect chemical to them around us. we can’t live anymore, but rent contract will expire on July 2007.
If We move out, still We need to pay the breaking of leaseing contract.
I have babies and kids. they hate this situation a lot.

My boyfriend and i signed a lease at the beginning of the year. We each paid half of the sec. deposit, first mo. rent and utilities but he hasn’t paid anything else since. He moved out and changed his address but he is still on the lease. I want to stay in the apt. without him but i don’t want to be responsible for the property damages he has caused. I also feel that he should at least pay me half of the rent for the past 4 months he was living there. Did i just get myself in an unfortunate situation or is there something i should do?

I have a question…i moved into an apartment with my son without my husband,i was the only one who signed the lease in mya and in june he moved in with me.The landlord now says that he has to be added to the lease so we complied and filled out the paperwork but he was denied because of his credit and now I was given a 3-day comply or quit so my question is how can they do this and is it legal? He is a stay at home dad with no income so i was soley responsible for the rent which i signed a six month lease(may-nov). The management is saying he can’t even stay there to provide daycare for our son who is 4.

A nightmare - you live in a 4-plex. 1 of the 4 goes on vacation, leaving their techno stereo on HIGH and on a timer that goes off each night at midnight. THe manager posts notes to their door, ignoring your comment that there are no humans inside right now. They claim that - legally - they can not enter and unplug the annoying stereo. So for a week to 10 days, 3 rent payers are left sleepless because of one inconsiderate moron.

I have a lease with my roommate and now she has decided to quit school and walk away from the lease, the lease is both our names and she has the utilities in her name, what is my action to take, isnt she responsible for her part, can someone else move in and take over her part if i can find someone but until i find a roommate she has to pay her 1/2 is this correct? if not what do i do, will i lose my apartment because she is childish and chooses to walk away from being an adult, please advise,thanks
