Staying Safe in Your Apartment
Mold, in some forms, can be poisonous. Mold can also trigger symptoms associated with allergies or other respiratory conditions. If your apartment has stained walls or carpeting, warped wood, cracking paint, black growth in tiling, blocked gutters or loose drywall, mold may be to blame. Mold is more apt to form in areas of excessive humidity. If you discover mold in your apartment follow the EPA guidelines for mold removal. These can be found at http://www.epa.gov/mold/.
Avoiding Crime
Crime can occur in any city, at any time, to anyone. Don’t live in fear—live smart and follow these guidelines to protect yourself:
Know what you’re up against. Check with your local police to see if a crime report is available online. In many cities, a street-by-street report is available, showing crimes by type and exactly when and where they happen.
Be aware of your surroundings. Many criminals look for a weakness in their victims, so be aware of your environment at all times.
Walk in well lit areas and keep multiple lights on when you leave your home. Lock doors and windows, and be sure your doors have a dead lock for extra protection.
