The History of Groundhog Day
Did you know???
In 1993, the movie “Groundhog Day” was shot in Woodstock, Illinois and was centered around the whole story of “Punxsutawney Phil”. The groundhog that starred in the movie now lives in a climate-controlled habitat beside the Punxsutawney Library.
“Phil” is not the only weather divining rodent in the U.S. and Canada but he is the best known. In Canada, their groundhog celebrity is an albino named “Wiarton Willie”. New York City has an official groundhog mascot who goes by the name “Pothole Pete”.
Regardless of what holiday you celebrate on February 2nd, it’s bound to be a chilly day that will leave you glad that the winter season is half over and spring isn’t too far away. That’s reason enough to have your own celebration!
