Unique Wedding Ideas
The traditional wedding includes a bride in a white dress, a bridal party in black and pastel, a white pillar cake and a steak dinner with champagne toasts and dancing. If you’ve ever thought of a wedding that was a little out of the ordinary, something that no one else has ever done before, we’ve got some wedding themes that will be impossible for you and your guests to forget!
Fall Themes
One of our staff members at Apartments.com had a Halloween wedding and incorporated all her favorite elements of this festive yet mysterious holiday including hand made haunted house centerpieces, dancing to the Time Warp and kids in costumes. If you are marrying from September-November, you can choose something as simple as fall colors and some decorative leaves or throw an all-out Halloween bash.
- For a fall-themed event, choose your favorite deep colors for the flowers, dress and décor. Burgundy, rust, burnt orange, yellow-green and gold are the palette colors for autumn. The bride may opt for a cream-colored dress (or even light tan) instead of bright white. If you live in a climate where the leaves turn, consider an outdoor wedding in a vineyard, orchard or country inn. Create centerpieces and other décor with silk leaves and infuse maple flavor into your meal and cake.
- A Halloween theme can be cute and childlike, with big smiling pumpkins and candy favors for the guests. It can also evoke the mysterious element of Halloween with elegant but spooky touches like capes for the bridal party, black and red floral displays and drippy candles on the reception tables. Perhaps you can hire a fortuneteller for the reception and have the DJ play spooky music to set the mood.
Winter Themes
- The holidays create the perfect magical feeling for a winter wedding. Use poinsettias, evergreens and holly for your floral displays and red or green dresses for the bridesmaids. Guests can be served plates of traditional Christmas cookies and velvet décor makes a beautiful accent for a traditional church setting and reception room. Try a Christmas tree and wreaths that hang on the bridal party table and gold or silver accents on the table centerpieces.
- Another winter idea is to use the beauty of large indoor spaces like museums and city libraries and create an art deco theme. Vintage cars can escort the bridal party, who are decked out in sheath dresses and traditional tuxedos. Calla lilies and ferns create unique floral displays, while a jazz band sets the mood during the reception. Use the architecture of buildings, including large archways and fountains, as decorative elements for the wedding and keep the theme big and bold with champagne corks popping throughout the evening.
