When shopping online, always be careful when sharing your credit card information. Also be sure to confirm how much you are going to be spending after shipping fees. The total cost, after shipping fees, should still be less than you would have paid for the item in a retail store. If you choose to participate in an online auction, make sure you contact the seller only through the site’s channels only to avoid falling prey to a scam.
Just a Word of Caution: Avoid Fake Sales and Deals
There is a difference between a “bargain” and a “cheap purchase.” A bargain is finding a lower price on an item that you would have bought anyway. A cheap purchase is paying a low cost for something that really is only worth that price, like a sweater that falls apart after the first time you wear it. It also includes buying things that you didn’t really need. Stores are very clever at tricking you into buying things you didn’t need in the first place by offering them to you at a lower price. You may get coupons and special offers in the mail or save an extra 20% because you hold a certain type of credit card. It’s easy to get pulled into these sales and think you are saving money but if you spend $100 on “bargain” items that you didn’t need, you really just wasted $100. Always evaluate if a coupon, deal or special offer is really going to save you money. Food coupons and special offers on major purchases, like cars or furniture, are probably worth it. Spend your money wisely and you’ll soon be one of those people who can say, “I just got a great bargain!”
